Adventures in Positioning: The Arc

When Melissa sent out the email asking if anyone was willing to review sex positions I raised my hand quite willingly. Not because I have a boring sex life, because trust me it’s anything but boring, but simply because I thought it would be fun.

My partner, N, believes it is because I live to make him blush.

(It’s just a perk, really.)

But he didn’t put up much of a fight, especially where the “research” was involved. He vowed he would sacrifice much of his time in the name of getting it right.

He’s so selfless. (It helps that his mother doesn’t read this blog. This would never go well if it were posted where the female members of his family could read.)

This week’s mission: The arc.

FYI: not us.

We attacked our assignment based on the photo as the translation simply confused us:

” The woman remains laid down mouth with open the legs and flexible above, supporting her arms behind shoulders. When his companion is ready to penetrate it, he elevates his hips and he settles on the flexible legs of the companion”

Right. Just look at the picture.

Let’s be straight up here and tell it like it is: I’m chubby and totally out of shape. All of that out of the way, this position isn’t impossible, but takes practice. And a sense of humor.

And persistence.

Luckily, N and I are both persistent people. It was hard not to dissolve into laughter after our first couple of tries that led to both of us staring at my iPod with our heads cocked sideways trying to figure out where we were going wrong.

Speaking as the lady, you need some core muscles as well as arm strength to pull this one off. It can be done, I think, but the key here is practice. We didn’t get it the first night. The next morning we stared down the assignment and tried to figure out if we were doing something wrong or just kind of clumsy. Things went better but I walked around work all day with sore arms. Because we don’t like to fail, I’m sure we’ll end up trying to perfect the move just to say we can, but it hasn’t happened yet.

I am so impressed that you guys kept trying! That picture, though, sure doesn’t make it look as complicated as it actually is, does it?
